# Which knee problems should not wait?

*Who Should Not Wait | Knee Pain Treatment Mesa*

> Knee warning signs that need same-day care, plus signs that continued waiting may no longer be helping.

Some knee changes need care today, while slow loss of strength calls for a new exam.

## Which warning signs cannot wait?

A hot, red, swollen knee with fever needs medical care that same day. So does severe soreness with drainage after joint care. After a hard injury, get urgent help when the leg won't carry your weight.

These aren't short spells of worse arthritis soreness.

## What other symptoms need urgent care?

Fast swelling after an injury may mean blood is collecting inside the joint. A cold or pale foot, new numbness, or trouble lifting the foot also needs urgent care. Calf swelling and warmth after surgery or long travel may be serious.

Have someone drive if the sore leg isn't safe to use.

## When is waiting no longer helping?

Waiting may no longer help when the knee wakes you or keeps you from normal daily tasks. Moving less can weaken the leg and worsen balance, which may make later recovery harder. If exercise and medicine haven't eased the soreness enough, arrange another exam.

Fear alone shouldn't stop you from asking what surgery would involve.

## Which promises deserve caution?

Be careful with anyone who promises to rebuild cartilage, the smooth covering on bone ends, or prevent surgery. An exam can guide a choice, but it can't promise how your knee will respond. Ask what the treatment contains, who gives it, its cost, and its risks.

Honest care includes clear limits.

## What can an ordinary clinic visit settle?

A medical provider, meaning a trained health professional, can examine the knee and review your health. The exam may show ordinary arthritis soreness, suggest another cause, or leave the cause unknown. More tests may be needed.

Use same-day care instead when a warning sign is present.
